The California-Hawaii Elks Major Project, Inc., a committee of the California-Hawaii Elks Association, pledges its commitment to addressing the unmet needs of children with disabilities throughout the states of California and Hawaii by developing a program of supporting services to aid these children at no cost to their families and without discrimination.

The California-Hawaii Elks Major Project, Inc., affectionately known as "CHEMPI", is financed primarily through donations to "The Purple Pig", the Major Project's fund raising arm. CHEMPI has an operating budget in excess of three million dollars. Thanks to your continuing generosity we have been able to maintain the level of support necessary to meet our goals in supporting, assisting and encouraging those we have taken under our wing.

Donations, yours and those of the many others that support this program and its concepts, have enabled us to continue supporting the many and varied projects that your Major Project has undertaken. A few highlights are listed below:
  • On staff there are 10 Pediatric Screeners, 8 Occupational Therapists, 8 Physical Therapists and 8 Speech/Language Pathologists.
  • In support of our Special Children, it is estimated that the dedicated staff of the Major Project travels between 300,000 and 400,000 miles per year.
  • The Preschool Vision Screening program screens between 40,000 and 50,000 children per year. These screenings, in some cases, have resulted in the detection of a number of vision problems that normally are beyond the scope of the original screenings, resulting in the staff identifying a possible problem early on and making referrals for further treatment.
  • Listed below are the 2006-2007 State Association year-end totals for the various areas of care that are encompassed by the Major Project. Reviewing these numbers will give you an idea of the awesome work performed by these professionals in response to your support.
